Asia Garment Hub Supplier Meet-Up: Changing the Terms of the Decarbonization Conversation

What’s being discussed?
The last few months we’ve had a number of supplier meet-ups focused on decarbonization. This month we’ll be tying the decarbonization conversation up (we have so much more to discuss!). In this case, “tie up” means: is there an interest in shifting the decarbonization conversation to a different setting – one that includes non-manufacturers? How would we do that? What could that look like?  

Initially, the thought was that this might take the form of a statement, or a position aimed at sparking public dialogue. But as a result of last month’s meetup, the thinking has evolved a bit. Maybe the key word is “conversation” – and maybe taking things forward means creating space for conversations between people who work in manufacturing and people who do not.  Could we take inspiration from unlikely places, like the Civil Conversations Project? Whether you think this is a great idea, or a terrible one, come, discuss, share.

What are Supplier Meet-Ups?
Informal and unrecorded meetups open exclusively to suppliers (any tier), held monthly on the first Thursday of every month.  The meet-ups are discussion focused and intended to facilitate connection between suppliers.  Each month a relevant speaker is invited to kick-start the conversation and moderated by Kim van der Weerd.  

Supplier Meet-Ups are hosted by the Asia Garment Hub, a digital one-stop shop tailored to the garment and textiles sector in Asia. The Asia Garment Hub is a joint initiative of the GIZ’s regional project FABRIC and the ILO’s Decent Work in Garment Supply Chains Asia project. 

Please note: Because supplier meet-ups are discussion focused, participants will be expected to have video ON.
