by Cotton Campaign, Coalition to End Forced Labour in the Uyghur Region

State-imposed forced labour is pervasive in global cotton supply chains; it is estimated that many cotton garments in the global apparel market are at great risk of being tainted with forced Uyghur labour. Until very recently, state-imposed forced labour was used in the cotton harvest in Uzbekistan. This session will draw on learnings from civil society-led efforts to end forced labour in the cotton industry and will discuss recent legislative developments, including import ban mechanisms and due diligence regulation, to enforce traceability beyond tier 1 and ensure responsible cotton sourcing.
