‘Modesty’ in the Modern World

Panel event hosted by the William Temple Foundation discussing modest fashion and its links to religion, consumption, ethics, and activism.

What do we mean when we talk about modest fashion? How have those who opt to dress modestly been impacted by changing societies, social structures and laws? And how does this differ in the way it is presented in Generation Z and their predecessors in the UK and around the world? This event, timed to coincide with the launch of London Fashion Week, will aim to answer these questions by deconstructing and examining issues surrounding the concept of ‘modesty’ and its links to religion, consumption, ethics and activism.

Journalist and William Temple Foundation Research Fellow Yasmin Khatun Dewan will be joined by Orsola de Castro, co-founder of Fashion Revolution and author of Loved Clothes Last, and activist and journalist Zumrut Sonmez.
