Committed to industry-wide progress? Help transform purchasing practices and accelerate change in the garment and footwear industry

The Industry We Want (TIWW) Purchasing Practices Metric has now been launched in partnership with The Better Buying Institute (BBI). We invite suppliers to complete The Better Buying Institute’s Partnership Index Survey and ask brands to encourage as many suppliers as they can to participate.

Research has shown that improved purchasing practices can help suppliers uphold brands’ human rights standards and improve the lives and dignity of workers in supply chains. The new Partnership Index Survey aims to act as the largest ever annual survey for manufacturers in the garment and footwear sector. By hearing manufacturers’ voices and views, we can help drive the changes we all want to see. The more manufacturers that complete the survey, the more valuable the insights and the more significant progress we can make.

Leonie Barrie-Abraham, Better Buying Institute: "The survey gives suppliers the safe space to anonymously share feedback. This gives brands and retailers insights to act upon. They can start to find out how problems are occurring and work with suppliers to resolve them."

What is the Partnership Index Survey?
The Better Buying Institute's Partnership Index Survey is an accessible set of 15 questions for manufacturers to answer about their relationships with brand partners. To ensure we collect as much information from as wide a stakeholder base as possible we are inviting manufacturers across the globe to participate.

The survey will close on 19th November 2021.

For manufacturers, this is a chance to have your say! We really want you to speak from the heart. That's how we learn what is happening and what needs to change. You need only 5 to 10 minutes to complete this survey for each of your brand partners. Information will be shared anonymously and will help provide business partners and the industry with an idea of the current state of purchasing practices worldwide so that we together can drive progress and accelerate change.

For brands, this information will provide you with direct feedback from suppliers on purchasing practices. This will generate valuable insights that can be used to build better relationships with suppliers, understand how/what processes need to improve internally and provide a basis for work on social and environmental sustainability.

For the industry, aggregated scores will be used to inform The Industry We Want’s annual purchasing practices metric, intended to act as a regular ‘temperature check’ on the industry. Individual scores will be made available to participating brands and multistakeholder initiatives.
