Monitoring and reporting on efforts to prevent and respond to harassment and violence is critical to risk management and driving norm and behaviour change in the workplace. This implementation note is intended to support companies in developing measures which can be monitored and reported on to company leadership. The note gives suggestions for what to track and measure, how to measure these, and when to measure and report. Embedding this into workplace systems, policies and leadership agendas will support prevention and response efforts. Information that is collected must be analysed and acted upon by company leaders and those responsible for preventing and responding to gender-based violence and harassment (GBVH).

We released our new digital brochure for the labour law app "Seth Yerng - Our Rights"! To empower female garment workers and to improve the knowledge of their rights FABRIC Asia created the mobile application called ‘Seth Yerng – Our Rights’ for Cambodia. The app has been launched in March 2021 and it informs workers about the most important labour laws and occupational health and safety regulations in the workplace in an interactive manner.

he Common Framework for Responsible Purchasing Practices (CFRPP) (the framework) provides a common language and alignment on what constitutes responsible purchasing practices. It is the result of a 2-year process of the MSI Working Group on Purchasing Practices (the Working Group), which includes representatives from the Ethical Trading Initiative, Ethical Trade Norway and Denmark, Fair Wear, the German Partnership for Sustainable Textiles (PST) and the Dutch Agreement for Sustainable Garments (AGT). The Working Group consulted with ACT (Action Collaboration Transformation), Better Buying Institute, Better Work and amfori.

In the fifth webinar, which is jointly organised by GIZ FABRIC and ILO’s Decent Work in Garment Supply Chains Asia project, we will look at the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on workers in the textile and garment sector in Asia from a gender perspective. Given that women account for roughly 80 per cent of the workforce, they are particularly affected by the predominantly negative effects of COVID-19. These are further exacerbated by underlying practices of discrimination, violence and harassment, lack of women’s representation and leadership, wage gaps, and unpaid care and family obligations. We will hear insights from Bangladesh and Indonesia, and discuss strategies to ensure gender is at the forefront of the COVID-19 recovery. We will also talk about the social and economic benefits of gender inclusive business operations in the textile and garment industry.

In the ninth seminar, which is jointly organized by GIZ FABRIC and the International Apparel Federation (IAF), we will hear from producers about different strategies to remain competitive in difficult times. Recent data from production countries give a generally somber picture of the textile and garment industry. Although orders are coming in, there is still uncertainty about upcoming purchases for early 2021 and beyond. To ensure liquidity, many producers turned to PPE early on, resulting in the rapid saturation of the market. This seminar introduces alternative pathways for the industry, whether through accelerated digitization, developing new markets or moving towards sustainability.
