The fashion industry plays a significant role in global greenhouse gas emissions, making it essential for the sector to take action on climate change. The Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, launched in 2018 and now part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), provides a framework for reducing emissions across the textile value chain. The aim is to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
In practice, however, it is not always easy for many small and medium-sized businesses along the textile supply chain to implement the climate targets directly. There is a lack of knowledge and resources.
Given the urgency and scale of the challenge, the Climate Education Tool is an important tool for fashion industry stakeholders, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to effectively manage their climate action journey in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The free tool has been developed by climate experts in collaboration with retail and industrial companies and in close partnership with producers and suppliers, and offers customized, science-based content tailored to the specific needs of SMEs.
Key Features:
- Beginner-Friendly: Ideal for companies new to climate action.
- Customizable Content: Based on scientific data, tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises.
- Global Reach: Available in multiple languages, making it accessible to businesses worldwide.
- Comprehensive Scope: Addresses emissions from direct operations (scope 1 & 2) and the value chain (scope 3).
The Climate Action Status Tracker helps companies assess their current climate efforts and provides personalized recommendations for further action. This tool supports emission reduction in both direct operations and value chains, and facilitates effective climate strategy dialogues between buyers and suppliers.
