Stricter Waste Regulation and Extended Producer Responsibility for Textiles

In November 2021, the European Commission introduced a proposal to reshape the Waste Shipment Regulation, with a primary focus on curtailing waste exports and restricting textile waste disposal outside the EU. This seminar is designed to demystify the landscape of EU waste legislation.

We will delve into the impact of the proposed Waste Shipment Regulation (WSR) and the Waste Framework Directive (WFD), addressing crucial aspects, including the legislative scope, progress, and promotion of sustainable waste practices. Moreover, we will explore extended producer responsibility, recycled content targets, and the criteria to distinguish textile waste from second-hand clothing.

We aim to provide participants with an understanding of the current legislative proposals concerning textile waste within the EU and its implications for brands, suppliers, textile exporting countries, and used textile importing nations.
