Powering Production with Solar
Investment in renewable energy capacity globally set a new record in 2021, with wind, solar and other renewables attracting US$366 billion in new finance, representing growth of 6.5 per cent from 2020. Forecasts indicate the trend will continue. Although data on total investment in textile and apparel supply chains is hard to come by, a turn to renewable energy is apparent. The number of companies investing in rooftop solar power plants across Asia have increased significantly over the past few years, with numerous major players reporting significant installed capacity.
The results have seen companies reduce energy bills (including fuel oil for boilers), defray costs by selling solar power back into local grids, provide power for communities surrounding solar-powered facilities, and reduce CO2 emissions. As more brands and retailers seek to reduce Scope 3 emissions, solar power plants will become key in meeting reduced emission targets.
In this session moderated by Rogier van Mansvelt, Project Lead Switch Garment/GGGI, you will hear from experts in the field, including manufactures with solar installations, covering topics from regional solar roadmaps and the changing landscape of brand emission requirements to the nuts and bolts of installing solar panels and realistic ROIs.
