Two new professional trainings to promote Gender Equality and prevent violence and harassment in the workplace

Nowadays, an average of 35% of women in the globe fall victim to direct violence at the workplace. At amfori, we are dedicated to support our members to improve their policy related to Gender Equality. That is why, we are proud to announce the launch of two new trainings on this crucial topic: Gender Equality and Zero-violence for Violence and Harassment in the workplace. The first one is an e-learning designed for our members’ business partners and the second is a learning video created specifically for factory workers. While we are encouraging amfori business partners to review and update their Social Management Policies, we empower factory workers to know their human rights connected to this topic.

Gender-Responsive management system: a commitment when joining amfori

When signing the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct, amfori members commit to 13 Performance Areas, which correspond to a set of principles and values for improving working conditions in their supply chains. One of them is the Performance Area n°4 “No discrimination, violence or harassment”. amfori members pledge to treat “all workers with respect and dignity, ensure that workers are not subject to any form of violence, harassment, and inhumane or degrading treatment in the workplace and do not discriminate against workers.”

Also part of the amfori BSCI system revision that occurred in 2022, the latest version of the amfori BSCI System Manual introduces a new approach called a gender-responsive management system, including initiatives such as dedicated room for nursing mothers, flexible hours for pregnant workers, and necessary accommodations for disabled employees.

3 modules to complete the e-learning for business partners

This e-learning will take amfori members’ business partners (producers) into three modules to better understand amfori’s principles as regard of Gender Equality and prevention of discrimination.

The learning objectives for these trainings are:

  • Assess and predict the occurrence of discrimination, violence, and harassment in the workplace using provided examples.
  • Ensure the implementation of amfori BSCI recommendations within your Social Management System by reviewing several checklists.
  • Update your current Social Management policies and procedures to comply with amfori BSCI System Requirements.
  • Know what gender equality is and why it is beneficial for you.
  • Identify the areas where women are especially vulnerable and complete a quick self-assessment.
  • Build gender-sensitive Social Management System.

This e-learning for Business partners is available in English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Turkish, Urdu, Indonesian, Bangla. It will take approximately 2 hours to complete.

A first time training with learning video support for workers

This is the first time that amfori provides a training with a video support dedicated to factory workers. This 30-minute learning video aims at raising awareness about gender equality, identifying instances of violence and harassment in the workplace and ensuring that factory workers know about their human rights.

Business partners will find this learning video available in 13 languages (including, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Bangla, Turkish etc.) and recommendations with an instruction on the amfori academy course page.

The successful implementation of the amfori BSCI Code of Conduct depends on the commitment of amfori members. These training courses are available to all amfori members. Business partners can participate at free admission if invited/ engaged by an amfori member.
