Navigating ESG Regulations and Updates Around the World

ESG brings opportunities to enterprises of all sizes and ESG regulations promote transparency, consistency and accountability while encouraging sustainable development practices and improving ESG performance. Thus, understanding the current and upcoming regulations is crucial, particularly for enterprises which are expanding overseas.

Organised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council and supported by amfori and other organisations, the workshop titled "Navigating ESG Regulations and Updates Around the World" was held successfully on 21 June 2024 in Hong Kong SAR. The workshop is well received by more than 100 senior management and sustainability practitioners from SMEs.

The workshop featured a series of insightful sessions led by ESG experts from Europe, America and Mainland China, including Bruno Güemes Delgado, Environmental Product Manager of amfori, Jeff Huang, Founder & CEO of AsiaREC and Jilai Peng, Managing Partner of SynTao. They addressed crucial aspects of the global ESG landscape with a focus on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) to help participants stay up-to-date with ESG developments in the new era and expand their business

During the keynote session, Bruno Güemes Delgado from amfori highlighted the opportunities and challenges posed by the CSDDD and other latest ESG trends and regulations. He shared that amfori BEPI (short for amfori Business Environment Performance Initiative) is an effective tool to improve environmental performance and mitigate environmental risks in the supply chain management. By focusing on up to 8 Environmental Performance Areas and key metrics  most relevant to operations, amfori BEPI can help businesses navigate and support in preparing for compliance  with local, regional and international standards effectively. Environmental due diligence does not stand alone, and that is why E, S and G solutions, such as amfori BSCI and amfori QMI, sit under the all-in-one amfori Sustainability Platform to enhance collaboration and a joint sustainability approach.

“amfori BEPI is proven to be an effective tool for businesses to support them in preparing for the challenges of an evolving regulatory landscape , enhance their environmental performance and reduce risks to the environment in their supply chains. Companies should now work on environmental sustainability issues with targeted improvements across all industrial sectors and supply chains worldwide, and we are pleased to receive positive feedback from the participants on the impact and utility of amfori BEPI, and their own environmental sustainability challenges.” Bruno stated.

In order to better support producers in China to conduct environmental risk assessments, amfori is planning to launch a pilot programme to invite their buyer members to nominate factory management in their supply chain in China to enrol the programme.  This will enable the factory management to identify environmental risks in their production sites and set appropriate continuous improvements plans for sustainable production.  More information can be found at www.amfori.org.
