Event Roundup: The 26th Sino-European CSR Roundtable Forum
Mr. Shi Yuchun, Director of the General Office, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT), emphasised in his opening remarks that MIIT, in echo of the government’s initiatives, has spared no effort in the green transformation of global supply chains that shapes a favorable environment for the sustainable development of business. Going forward, MIIT will continue to work together with stakeholders and aim to achieve a green and low-carbon supply chains transformation.
Ms. Linda Kromjong, President of amfori, reiterated in her opening remark that despite the challenges of wars and pandemic, the increasing trend of national level legislations in China and across the EU have shown that due diligence is a must-do instead of nice to have. amfori is dedicated to collaborating with partners to support its members towards a global low-carbon supply chain through amfori BEPI - the environmental due diligence tool to monitor and remediate environmental performance risk, including a carbon calculator assessing the emissions linked to energy use on site.
BEPI is currently used by 912 Members and 15,219 producers across 15 industries. The amfori BEPI 2.0 pilot has been rolled out in China and Bangladesh with over 40 business partners participating.
Ms. Jeannette Paulusma, Direct Import Quality & Sustainability Manager of Action Holding B.V, highlighted that the four Pillars - Product, Planet, People and Partnership are the cornerstones of Action’s Sustainability Plan. Action is an amfori member and one of the fastest growing non-food discount chain stores in the EU.
Mr. Zhao Kai, Executive Vice president of China Association of Circular Economy, shared the development of Circular Economy in China and how it is incorporated in different areas of economic and production activities and supporting China’s 14th Five-Year Plan to reach carbon neutrality in 2060.
Mr. Steven Li, Vice President and General Manager of International Logistics Strategy and Large Accounts Department of Jingdong Logistics (JD Logistics), shared the green and integrated supply chain practice of JD Logistics and how the low-carbon goals could be achieved via collaboration with other brands and stakeholders.
The keynote speech was followed by a panel discussion with the participation of Ms. Jeannette Paulusma, Mr. Du Yong Hai, General Manager of the Green Living & Innovation Division of Hong Kong Productivity Council, Mr. He Hongliang, Deputy Secretary General of China Electronics Standardization Association and Mr. Hu Kehua, Director of Sustainability Stewardship Programs, China National Textile and Apparel Council, to address the importance of public and private sectors’ cooperation to create synergy and positive impact towards low carbon supply chains amidst the challenging environment.
