amfori Takes a Critical Next Step in Addressing Audit Integrity Challenges

With over 20 years of experience to support companies in improving working conditions, amfori has consistently demonstrated high audit standards and a commitment to strengthening the quality and integrity of its audit process. As companies face increasing expectations to exercise Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) due diligence, amfori aims to enhance the credibility and reliability of the amfori audit process, ensuring that audit quality and integrity are maintained and continuously improved.

Growing challenges in maintaining audit integrity

In today’s interconnected business landscape, the integrity of audits is critical for companies willing to uphold their commitments to ethical and responsible operations. The legal framework of the European Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (EU CSDDD) acknowledges the credibility issues surrounding audits. The European Commission, in collaboration with EU Member States, intends to “issue guidance setting out fitness criteria, a methodology for companies and guidance for monitoring the accuracy, effectiveness” and integrity of audits.

amfori launches an audit integrity project group

In response to these growing challenges, amfori is proud to announce the launch of its Audit Integrity Project Group, which comprises four dedicated work packages that address specific audit integrity challenges. This project will establish the baseline for an Audit Integrity Programme that will be integrated into the existing amfori Audit Assurance Programme.

The project adopts a stakeholder-driven approach, leveraging the expertise and perspectives of 30 participants, including companies, suppliers, auditors, auditing companies, APSCA and amfori’s audit assurance partner, KPMG. All participants were selected through a call for participation, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in tackling audit integrity challenges.

The active involvement of all stakeholders is crucial to the success of this Audit Integrity Project Group,” said Linda Kromjong, President of amfori and Board member of APSCA. “By further enhancing audit integrity, amfori stays true to its commitment towards promoting sustainable trade and ensuring a positive impact for amfori audit process as part of a robust ESG due diligence.”

Strengthening amfori audit integrity process

The ultimate goal of the Audit Integrity Project Group is to develop comprehensive solutions that can foster audit integrity within the framework of amfori BSCI and amfori BEPI. By enhancing audit integrity, amfori wants to be proactive in maintaining high standards in its audit process, thereby fostering trust in global supply chains.
